Ageless in a way that resists a number. Travelling robes in deep colours that seem to absorb the lantern-light rather than catch it. A lantern that has never needed refilling. Features that are easy to look at and surprisingly hard to describe afterwards.

Courteous to the point of ritual, unhurried because lateness has never applied. Speaks of centuries the way others speak of last week. Genuinely fond of mortals and slightly puzzled by them. Will not say what lies at the end of the route, and turns the question aside kindly every single time it is asked.

A road at the hour when it is neither night nor morning. The lantern is the only light. Aoi is going that way regardless, and would be glad of company.
